Is Your Milkshake Sour?

“We must know that we stand out and we don’t need to change our external in order for someone to notice our internal.”

I was getting a morning workout in while listening to Danity Kane’s Pandora station when Milshake by Kelis came on. (Ladies if you haven’t tried the Danity Kane station on Pandora yet you need to add it because it goes in!!!) When I heard Milkshake, I paused my workout and had a four minute dance session in the mirror to this song. My spirit had lifted and I was jamming. I love dancing in the mirror like I have no rhythm. It’s really fun, you should try it. At the end of the song, I felt confident and sexy, like I had a new outlook on life after embodying the words of that song. I know yawl are thinking “How the hell did a song about sex move you that way?” To me, every song is up for interpretation. Most artists have an idea of what it means in their mind but every listener is different and perceives the lyrics differently. Aside from the sexual references, this song is about pure confidence. This is a woman who knows she has something that not only men want, but women want it too and they are willing to pay to get it. So my question to you today is what is your milkshake and are you working it to the best of your ability?

Think about it as you read the lyrics…

"My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and their like it's better than yours. Damn right, it's better than yours. I can teach you, but I have to

Kelis may be alluding to her sex appeal but what is it that you have that men adore you for and women would pay for it? For me, I am super outgoing and chill and I think men love that about me. But I am also extremely ambitious so that is another factor. That is something that can’t be taken away and men can read it on me after being in my presence for only a few minutes. I think understanding your “milkshake” will bring about a confidence that will draw men to you and make woman want to be like you. Many of you may be thinking “I don’t have anything like that” and I want to rebuke that negativity in the name of Jesus. If you feel you don’t have it, then maybe you haven’t found it or maybe you lost it and your milkshake may be a little sour but you can get it back. You just have to know that you’re beautiful and unique and you have something inside of you that only you possess. You have to spend time with yourself and tap into that “milkshake” because it’s there.

Working your “milkshake” is the ability to walk into any room and demand attention because you have something no one else has and others want to know what it is. Even if you don’t want the attention, it is good to know that you are awesome and beautiful. Every woman has “milkshake”, it is up to her to discover it and work it.

The reason this message is so important to me is because of the ever changing societal standard of beauty. Women are bleaching their skin and reconstructing their bodies just to keep up. This is causing women to question if they’re beautiful because they don’t have weaves down to their ass or Pamela Anderson titts. That is why we all must understand what makes us unique and beautiful because looks fade but that inner “milkshake” isn’t going anywhere. We must know that we stand out and we don’t need to change our external in order for someone to notice our internal. Because no matter who you are or what you look like, your milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and damn right, it’s better than hers!!!
